Contemporary Furniture Exhibition at Arcaz |
|
A major two-week exhibition of contemporary furniture featuring the work of some of the north of England’s top makers and designers is to be held in the Derbyshire Peak District this summer. Northern Contemporary Furniture Makers, a group of independent designer-makers, will exhibit at Arcaz, from July 11th to July 27th, coinciding with the Buxton Festival. The show will include recent work from fourteen workshops, including pieces by Andrew Lawton, Philip Dobbins and Suzanne Hodgson. All the makers work with wood, using a range of traditional and modern cabinet-making skills to produce fresh, contemporary and practical designs. Much of the furniture in the exhibition will be available to buy, and commissions will also be taken for new pieces. Speaking for the Northern Contemporary Furniture Makers, Garry Olson of Wilmslow-based Garry Olson Furniture, says: “Although contemporary furniture is widely and regularly exhibited in the south of England, notably in London and Cheltenham, there have been very few shows in the north. We hope that this, our first major exhibition in the North West, will reach as wide an audience as possible. We want people to see that they no longer need to go to London for high quality modern English furniture.”
